VENUE KITS TRAINING CENTRE OR IN-COMPANY

DURATION ½ DAY, 1 DAY or TWO DAY

AIM

To provide people who handling patients as part of their normal work routine, with the practical skills knowledge and ability to enable the safe moving and handling of patients.
Through the assessment of risks and selection of equipment and techniques.

OBJECTIVES

On completion of the course, participants will be able to:

• Understanding the legal and professional issues surrounding patient movement.

• The anatomy and back care of the spine and associated structures.

• Describe and Implement the principals of manual handling.

• Carry out associated risk assessments.

• Understanding the ergonomics of the process.

• Successfully carry out practical lifting / handling techniques. Including:

Chair and bed manoeuvres,
Chair to floor for emergencies.

• Understand and recognise illegal and controversial measures.

• Recognise, select and use appropriate:

Manual handling equipment, (hoists, slings etc)
Patient moving equipment, "Patslides", boards, sheets etc

• Be proactive and confident in solving associated problems.
