Duration: 3 years
GCSE C/4 or above (or be able to achieve these grades) in Maths and English.
An interest and knowledge about the chosen apprenticeship pathway should be demonstrated.
An apprenticeship job is required. You can find your employer or KITS can help you with this.
Heavy Vehicle Apprentices service and repair large vehicles such as trucks and agricultural vehicles. Apprentices are trained in all aspects of Beau Vehicle mechanics and electronics such as engine and exhaust systems, air conditioning and security systems.
Duties of a Heavy Vehicle Technician include:
Servicing vehicles – carrying out checks and maintenance according to the manufacturers guidelines.
Repairing and replacing faulty parts and components.
Advising the service department and customers about required repairs.
Producing time estimates.
Maintaining repair and service records.
This Level 3 course will be assessed on the following elements:
Log book and behaviour assessment
On-Programme knowledge tests at Gateway 2
Synoptic Knowledge End test
Synoptic Skills tests
You will be employed in industry, earning a wage whilst gaining the skills and qualifications throughout your 3 year programme.
What can you expect once you are qualified?
Heavy Vehicle Technicians usually work around 40 hours a week, from Monday to Friday, this may include shift work and some overtime. Some tasks can be physically demanding although you will use lifting equipment to move heavy parts.
*Once you are qualified you could expect to earn between £20,000 – £35,OOO a year.
