GCSE C/4 or above (or be able to achieve these grades) in Maths and English.
An interest and knowledge about the chosen apprenticeship pathway should be demonstrated.
An apprenticeship job is required. You can find your own employer or KITS can help you with this.
As a Light Vehicle Apprentice you will service and repair vehicles such as cars and vans. You will be trained in all aspects of vehicle mechanics and electronics including air conditioning, security features and engine and exhaust systems.
Duties of a Light Vehicle Apprentice include:
Servicing vehicles – carrying out checks and maintaining vehicles according to the manufacturers guidelines.
Repairing and replacing faulty parts and components.
Advising the service department and customers about required repairs.
Producing time estimates.
Maintaining repair and service records
This Level 3 course will be assessed on the following elements:
Log book and behaviour assessment
On-programme knowledge tests at Gateway 2
Synoptic Knowledge End test
Synoptic Skills tests
You will be employed in industry, earning a wage whilst gaining the skills and qualifications throughout your 3 year programme.
What can you expect once you are qualified?
Dependant on employers a Light Vehicle Technician will work around 40 hours a week from Monday to Saturday. This can include shift and overtime work.
*Once you are qualified you could expect to earn between £18,OOO – £26,OOO a year.
